Cette année encore, la troupe conduite par Judi Christie s’est produite pour deux représentations de leur nouvelle pièce “A Necessary Change” de Philip Ayckbourn.
Si l'objectif premier est de proposer aux élèves une approche différente de l'anglais, il faut reconnaître que l’écriture des textes et le jeu des acteurs permet à tous de saisir le sens de l’histoire et de se plonger pleinement dans la pièce.
Pour cette nouvelle saison, le Quorum Theatre Company nous fait découvrir, sous la forme d’une comédie hilarante, Jack Fellowes amoureux de Susan, mais dévoué à sa mère Rita qui rejette cette liaison, de peur de perdre son fils.
Susan (interprétée par Katherine Nolan) saura à force de ruse donner à Jack le courage de se libérer et de faire triompher leur amour...
Judi Christie, qui joue ici le rôle de la mère castratrice, a choisi le talentueux Londonnien Rhys Lawton, métamorphosé en un jeune et fragile adolescent, tiraillé entre l’amour maternel et celui de sa vie!
Les deux représentations ont encore cette année connu un vif succès auprès des élèves et des enseignants qui remercient la troupe pour son professionnalisme.
A brief synopsis
Jack Fellowes has difficulty standing up for himself, especially against his overbearing
mother (Rita) who keeps a controlling hand on Jack’s activities. Jack’s long-suffering
girlfriend (Susan) has had enough. She’s had enough of Rita’s control over Jack and
her dismissal of Susan as Jack’s girlfriend. She has a plan. After informing Jack that
their relationship is over, Susan transforms herself into Zara Prince, her bold and brazen
(American) alter ego and proceeds to take the Fellowes’ household by storm. Jack finds
himself falling for the feisty Zara much to his mother’s despair, but there is only one
problem; what will become of Susan? Fortunately for Susan, Jack realises that, although
Zara had helped him to find his fighting spirit, his true affections still lie with Susan. Jack
breaks his relationship with Zara and re-unites with Susan. Susan, Jack and Rita’s lives
have all found a new energy and optimism – but there is only one cloud that troubles this
sunny horizon: will Susan tell Jack the truth about Zara!
The story is about the awakening to the knowledge of what one truly wants and finding the
courage to attain it.
